Anna Veselova, Assistant Professor of Operations Management Department, won the Best Paper by an Early Career Researcher Award at the Academy of International Business United Kingdom and Ireland Chapter Annual Conference.

The Conference of the Academy of International Business United Kingdom and Ireland Chapter”International Business in Multi-speed Global Economy” was held on April, 6-8 at Birkbeck, University of London. Professor Veselova have presented a paper titled “The Role of Innovativeness, Strategy, Size and Context in Multinationality-Performance Relationship for Emerging MNEs: The Case of Russian MNEs” won the Best Paper by an Early Career Researcher Award.

The paper studies how the degree of internationalization (DOI) of Russian firms affects their performance. On the basis Casson’s (1999) concept of (increasing) transaction and information costs adding to organizational complexity and expenditures, an S-shaped relationship between DOI and performance is hypothesized. To capture contextual complexity, critical boundary conditions for the relationship DOI-performance of Russian firms are considered, namely 1) the impact of environmental uncertainty, 2) firm-level characteristics such as firm size and innovativeness, and 3) the generic strategy followed by the Russian MNEs.
