Google Workshop

On September 29th 2015 a workshop by Google was be held at the Graduate School of Management.

Contrary to popular belief, we don’t just hire engineers. Whether it’s developing new business strategies, enhancing customer happiness, providing online marketing consultancy to our clients or bringing products to market, there are plenty of graduate opportunities at Google that don’t involve algorithms.

The workshop was conducted by Julia Ladyzhenko, Account Strategist in Goolge and GSOM SPBU graduate  (MIB 2011). The main focus of the workshop was on innovations and new technologies.

At the first part of the workshop, Julia showed some inspirational pictures and videos confirming the fact that innovations can improve our life or even change it (the examples of plane and Google electronic car were used).

At the second part of the workshop, the participants were divided into 4 teams and each of the team in 30 minutes should have identified a problem, which could be potentially solved by a highly technological tool or an application. It is worth mentioning that 3 out of 4 teams were concentrated on solving problems, connected with health issues. As a result, 4 new Google products were developed by the teams and were presented to the audience:

-       Alphabet U: a special device, which makes the life of the people with disabilities (mute, deaf or blind) easier.

-       Google Care 1: a band connected to the telephone application, which is aimed to control the health condition  and the lifestyle of people, suffering from diabetes

-       Google Hairlmet: a special device, which can replace a hairstylist. You should simply  download the image with the perfect haircut into the system and  the device will make the haircut of you dream immediately.

-       Google Care 2: an application aimed to control the health condition of people, suffering from diseases and assist in improving it.

After all the presentations were delivered, the students chose the winning team by open vote and  the team, which presented the idea of Google Hairlmet was announced as a winner.  The winning team, as well as the other participantsб received small presents from Google.

At the end of the session, Julia described the students all the career opportunities for students and graduates in Google (full-time positions and internships) and application mechanisms. All the participants could ask their questions and talk to the company representative.

1-st and 2-nd year Master students, 4-th year Bachelor students and GSOM graduates participated in the workshop.

The workshop was conducted in English.
