Elena is based in London and covers the clients from Europe, Middle East and Africa.  Elena joined Citi in 2010 as part of management analyst program. Prior to joining EMEA Energy team in September 2013, she worked in Moscow Investment Banking Team advising Russian and CIS clients. Today Elena advised on various transaction with the total value of more than US$65bn, including advisory to Rosneft on the acquisition of TNK-BP in 2013.

Guest lecture by Mike Rozen 

On 8 December, 2014 the guest lecture by Chief Scientist at Wilton Consulting Group Mike Rozen "5 Things Every Business Leader Needs to Know about IT-Enabled Transformations" was held at GSOM SPBU.

IT is an integral part of every business today. And while business leaders don’t need to know the details of writing code or managing servers, they do need to understand how to use IT effectively to drive the business strategy. In addition, understanding the role and responsibility of business in the acquisition and management of IT is critical to efficient, flexible, agile, and cost effective business transformations.

 

During the course the following topics were covered:
1.    What is Enterprise and Business Architecture and why you need it
2.    Business’s responsibility in controlling cost and complexity
3.    Improving Portfolio Management
4.    Effective execution of business strategies
5.    Security is the issue of the decade\

Training by The Boston Consulting Group

On 5 December, 2014, the training for Master students "Structured thinking: instruments for case cracking" by The Boston Consulting Group was held at GSOM SPBU.

 


BCG representatives shared the structuring techniques and explained how to set the priorities and present the solutions to the clients and directors. Students were divided into 4 teams and each team by the end of the training session delivered mini-presentation.
All knowledge, that you receive during the training, are necessary for the study process, as well as for the case interview, which is one of the steps of the selection process for summer internship 2015.

Guest lecture of ICAEW Technical Strategy Executive Director Mr. Robert Hodgkinson was held in GSOM SPBU.

 

 

 

 

The topic of the guest lecture: «The role of the accountant within the modern organization and ethics of the accountants’ decisions».

Modern accountant is dealing with the range of issues within the organization, that require serious professional preparation and education, including the knowledge and application of the Ethic Codes.
The guest lecture covered the topic of the professional education importance of the accountant and the role within the modern organization and the ethics of the decision making.

 

Robert Hodgkinson  - ICAEW Techical Strategy Executive Director, from 2007 till 2014 is an official member of the International Federation of Accountants  (IFAC), from 2000 till 2004 Vice-President of the European Federation of Accountants (FEE).

On 22 October, 2014, a master-class by L’Oreal "Luxury beauty market. How to build a successful brand” was held at GSOM SPBU.

 

 

 

 

During the master-class Elena Hodunova, Group Brand Manager YSL, described the specificities of beauty business in lux segment, gave the examples of successful brand development due to the launch of a new product and successful career path in brand management'.
 
Heidi Wenzler, Head of Talent Recruitment, and Pavel Tyutyaev, Graduate Recruitment Specialist, presented to the studnets the biggest career events: business game L'Oreal Brandstorm 2015 and the program of the summer internships Taste of L’Oreal.

The event was attended by GSOM SPBU Bachelor and Master students.

On October 13, 2014 the Bloomberg Aptitude Test (BAT)  was held in GSOM SPBU.

 

 

 

 

St. Petersburg University Graduate School of Management is partnering with Bloomberg L.P., the leading financial data and news provider, to offer the BLOOMBERG APTITUDE TEST (BAT) completely FREE OF CHARGE on campus!  Taking part in the Bloomberg Aptitude Test on at GSOM SPBU is a possibility to be put in touch with over 20,000 global employers! Over 140,000 students have taken the BAT in over 2,000 universities around the world took part in the test.

Rosneft Company Day

Rosneft Day at Graduate School of Management SPbU took place on October 11, 2014 at 10.00 am at 3, Volkhovsky per.

 


Rosneft is the leader of Russia’s petroleum industry ranked among the world’s top publicly traded oil and gas companies.
 
During the whole day Bachelor and Master students participated in a wide range of events specially invented by Rosneft company.

 

The day was started with the guest lecture "Rosneft - the present and the future" by Alexander M. Kuznetsov, deputy-head of expert and analytical group of Rosneft Company. Associate Professor of the Department of Finance and Accounting Olga M. Udovichenko greeted the audience. Mr. Kuznetsov touched upon different subjects including the wide variety of businesses represented in the company's activity and an imoportant role of cooperation between Rosneft and universities across Russia. The lecture was followed by non-formal communication with the company representatives.

The lecture was attended by at least 90 students including the students of GSOM SPbU, Institute of Earth Sciences SPbU and the faculty of economics SPbU. The lecture was conducted in Russian with simultaneous translation into English.

 

After the lecture 45 students took part in the business game VINK (Vertically Integrated Oil Company). Participants  were divided into 10 competing teams: MPG compan, NK "Mi", Epsilon, Novem Neft, Blackgold, United Oil, Russian Black Oil, Black gold Inc., Struya Oil Company (one of the teams quit the game). After all the team "Novem Neft" represented by Tatyana Kruchinina (2-nd year student of GSOM SPbU bachelor program), Ekaterina Mitusova (2014 graduate of GSOM SPbU master program), Alina Orlova (2014 graduate of GSOM SPbU bachelor program), Grigory Romanovsky (1-st year student of GSOM SPbU master program) and Pavel Tarabanov (1-st year student of GSOM SPbU master program) became the winner of the competition.

All the participants were awarded with Rosneft labeled prizes.

Olga Vorobyeva, Senior Brand Manager Siberian Crown & a graduate of GSOM,  shared all the tips & tricks of a revised brand marketing strategy, considering recent beer market regulations.

Oksana Obukhova, Europe Recruitment Lead, told students more about Anheuser-Busch InBev, its history and world-known brands, and described what AB InBev offers to GSOM graduates as excellent career opportunities.

On September 30, 2014, master-class by EY “The ideal job candidate; or, How to land the job of your dreams” was held at GSOM SPBU.

When you apply for your dream job, two factors are generally crucial in determining whether you get it or not: your resume and the job interview. And if writing a good resume isn’t all that hard, you can never be 100% prepared for an interview, because you never know what an employer is going to ask.
 
During the master-class students have learnt:
 
•    how to write a good resume;
•    how to look for your dream job;
•    how companies structure their hiring process;
•    how to make a good impression in a job interview (tips & tricks);
•    what HR managers and supervisors are looking for;
•    and many other useful facts about what makes a successful job candidate.

 On May 21, 2014 PwC invited you to participate in the skill seminar "5 Steps to a Job Offer from PwC" which was be held at the company's office at Grivtsova lane, 4, 4th floor.

 

 

 

During the seminar the following topics were discussed and illustrated with practical examples:

• types of methods in recruitment used by PwC and other companies;
• how to prepare for the interview;
• assessment center and interview by competencies: key advantages and disadvantages for the interviewee;
• general recommendations (CVs, dress code, "stumbling block" of graduates during interviews and etc.);
• key trends in human resources market.

Several practical tasks covered the aspects of  the behavior during interview ( e.g., students will have ability to act as  interviewee or interviewer during practical tasks and will receive the feedback, how to improve the behavior during real interview).

On May16, 2014 the guest lecture by the Executive Deputy President of Japan Tobacco Inc. was held at GSOM SPBU.

 

 

 

On May 16, 2014 the guest lecture by the Executive Deputy President of Japan Tobacco Mr. Akira Saeki was held at GSOM SPBU.

 
The lecture, that was organized by the Graduate School of Management SPbU in cooperation with Saint Petersburg International Business Association (SPIBA), was dedicated to the reality of cross-cultural management in contemporary world.

 
Approximately 70 people attended the lecture. Among the guests there were representatives of the companies such as SPIBA, JTI, Unipres, Forenom, Coca-Cola, BALTIKA Brewery, Toyota Motors, NOVOTEL, and not only SPbU students, but students of other higher educational institutions such as Higher School of Economics, European University, Saint Petersburg State University of Machine Construction, Saint Petersburg State Economical University.

 
The meeting was opened by the greeting speech of the First Deputy Director of the Institution “Graduate School of Management” Mr. Yuriy V. Fedotov. Mr. Fedotov underlined the company’s contribution to the life and development of the University as well as its students and the importance of the cooperation between the company and the University. Mr. Akira Saeki also expressed his satisfaction from the cooperation of the both sides and his interest in its further interaction.

 
The lecture was dedicated to the reality of cross-cultural management in contemporary world. Mr. Saeki talked about the transition to cross-cultural management at JT Group: change from monopoly to a global player – background for the creation of the international company, history of the absorption of the foreign tobacco factories by JT and the hints to solve problems arising within the multinational area. Mr. Saeki also made an example of some ethnographic features from the ancient Japan that still make the basis of the JTI company’s ethics.

 
In conclusion the guests had an opportunity to ask Mr. Saeki all the questions they had. The guests were interested in the management realization principles and the company’s strategy in Russia, ways of solving controversial issues within multinational company, variety of social projects realized and supported by JTI in different countries, and support of the employees who already reached the age of retirement.

 
After the official part of the meeting the guests had an advantage to speak to Mr. Saeki in non-official environment and ask him the rest of the questions.

 
The lecture was conducted in the Japanese language with simultaneous translation into the Russian language.

On April 26, 2014  Spring Career Day 2014 was held at the Graduate School of Management SPbU.

 

 

Graduate School of Management St. Petersburg State University invited its students and graduates to attend the Spring Career Day 2014 to be held on April  26, 2014.

 

Among the participants of the Spring Career Day 2014 were the leading international and Russian companies: P&G, Citi (Citigroup), L’Oréal, Sberbank Russia North-West Bank, PwC«BFA», Bank «Russian Standard», Bank «VTB», Russian Railways, MegaFon, "Gazprom neft", "Gazprom export" IBM, Deloitte, Coca-Cola Hellenic, British America Tobacco, SUN InBev , Alt , "Philip Morris International" and EY.

 

The studentsgot the information regarding internships and employment opportunities during the Job Fair. The participants also had an opportunity to join a mini-game with prizes from the participating companies.

On 21-22 February 2014 the Boston Consulting Group Case Cracking session & Summer Internship test was held in GSOM SPBU.

On 7 February 2014 the presentation by McKinsey & Company was held in GSOM SPBU.

 

 

 

 

McKinsey & Company gave a special presentation to inform students in greater detail about the recruitment process, requirements for candidates, and other relevant topics. There was enough room for students to ask any questions and even to consult their CVs with an HR manager.

In the first part of the presentation, McKinsey consultants was talking about:

18:30-19:00 What is consulting about in general and at McKinsey in particular?
19:00-19:30 How to join McKinsey? How to get ready for the interviews? What is the difference between working as a consultant and as an intern?

 

In the second part of the event, the students' questions were answered by McKinsey consultants.
