The COPPEAD Graduate School of Business of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (Brazil)COPPEAD is the Graduate School of Business of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro - UFRJ). Its origins date back to 1973 when it was created as one of the programs within UFRJ's Coordination of Graduate Programs in Engineering. From the start, COPPEAD has been guided by a vision to create an educational institution capable of meeting the highest international standards in its field. The first formative years were marked by a considerable exchange of faculty with some of the best international business schools in the US and Europe. In 1980, COPPEAD moved to its own building within the main UFRJ campus and, soon later, acquired the status of an autonomous institute within the structure of the University, thus becoming the COPPEAD Graduate School of Business.

Rankings and Accreditations

COPPEAD is a member of the group of business schools holding the accreditations ofEQUIS and the Association of MBAs.

COPPEAD has been listed seven times, since 2001, in the global rankings of the top 100 full-time MBA programs published by the Financial Times. In 2009, it was once more the only business school from Latin America included in the list.

COPPEAD is among the top 10 schools in the categories of Corporate Strategy and Industry, and is one of the top 16 schools with 100% of faculty with a doctoral degree.



The COPPEAD faculty is composed of:

- 25 Ph.D. professors, full-time, with academic backgrounds from Europe, United States, Canada and Brazil

- Part-time Professors, associates and collaborators, with Ph.D.'s or Master degrees (in executive education programs only).


Degrees and Programs

The school currently offers two types of programs.


Graduate (Full-Time) Programs

  • Master in Business Administration: 18-month program
  • Doctoral Program: 4 year program

Executive Education Programs

  • Specialization Programs: 10 month, one-day-a-week programs (Executive MBA, Health Management, Marketing Management, Finance Management, Logistics Management)
  • Advanced Programs: Medium-length (20 or 40 hour) advanced (post MBA) modular programs in Finance, Marketing and Strategy
  • Professional Improvement Programs: 180 hour, 10-month (Project Management, Retail Management and Service Management)
  • Pre-experience Programs: 160 hour, 10-month (International Management, Entrepreneurship, Finance, Marketing and Human Resource)
  • In-company programs
