System and interdisciplinary approach to learning.

Students get fundamental knowledge in management, economics and public administration, which allows them to work successfully both in government at various levels and in private sector organizations.

   

Analytical focus of the program.

The program includes a wide range of disciplines aimed at developing skills for economic and legal analysis (constitutional and administrative law, civil law, international law, economic analysis of markets and regulation, institutional economics, public economics, econometrics, quantitative methods in public administration, etc.), as well as block of disciplines that form the knowledge of modern tools of public management (public-private partnerships, public procurement, public programs development and evaluation, etc.).

   

Unique teaching staff.

The faculty at the department of Public Administration, headed by a leading expert in the field of public-private partnerships — Minister of transport of the RF Maxim Y. Sokolov, can be characterized by:

  • systemic approach to analysis of business-government relations, significant experience of teaching business disciplines, as well as disciplines related to public administration, 
  • extensive experience in conducting scientific and applied research, participation in international research projects, consulting work, participation in international scientific and practical conferences, 
  • internationalization, which is supported by annual foreign study programs for faculty and attraction of international experts.
   

International student mobility.

Students are given the opportunity to study one semester abroad at world leading schools of public administration.

 

 

Strong links with management practices.

Extensive connections and partnerships with the government, leading consulting companies and think tanks help in organizing annual series of guest lectures and seminars with the management practitioners. In addition, students are involved in research and field work from the first year of study.

There are three main areas of graduates’ employment:

  

  

Government bodies at the federal, regional and local levels. Graduates successfully work in the Committee for Economic Development, Industrial Policy and Trade of St. Petersburg, the Foreign Relations Committee, Committee for Investments and Strategic Projects, the Committee on City Property Management, Finance Committee and other bodies.

Government relations departments in Russian and international companies. To date, these departments are an integral part of the organizational structures of such world famous companies such as Procter & Gamble, Royal Dutch Shell, British American Tobacco, Chevron Corporation, Rosneft, Gazprom, VimpelCom and many others.

Independent analytical services, consulting companies and research institutions (including international), whose task is to advise companies and financial institutions on macroeconomic and fiscal policies, trends in financial and commodity markets, business regulation. GSOM graduates successfully work in such international consulting companies like Deloitte, Ernst & Young, McKinsey & Co, PricewaterhouseCoopers.
