Course Description:

The goal of the discipline is to familiarize students with the contemporary supply chain and operations management concepts, with its role and place in the strategic management of the company as well as with innovative practices of supply chain and operations management. The students will study and analyze cases of supply chain management operating in different countries, markets and various competitive contexts. The students will also study the tools of supply chain and operations management (including, but limited to the following topics: inventory management, transport management, facility locations, etc.). 

Course Content (Topics and subtopics):

Topic 1. World class supply management in new global digital world (Introduction / Successful and failure cases / Challenges of contemporary world)
Topic 2. Strategy and operations (Operations management and SCM / Operations strategy / Inventory management / Production and Outsourcing issues)
Topic 3. Supply chain metrics (The supply chain-finance connection / The revenue-cost connection)
Topic 4. Distribution networks and network optimization problems (Value creation in supply chains / Distribution and design problems on networks / Omni-channel supply / Facility location / Transportation issues)
Topic 5. Digitalization of supply chains (3D Printing / Big data and machine learning in supply chains / New business models for contemporary world)
Topic 6. Relationship and contract management (Supplier development / Retailer-supplier relationships)
Topic 7. Sustainable supply management (Risk management in global chains / Sustainability practices / Closed loop supply chain / Reverse logistics / Circle economy)

Course progress – 60%, exam – 40%.
Course progress (60%) includes:
• Home assignment and presentation (individual): 10% x 1
• In-class tests (15-20 minutes each, individual): 2,5% x 4
• In-class presentations (in groups): 20% x 1
