In 1993, GSOM SPbU history began with the six professors and 33 students, who were united by an idea of developing business education in Russia, basing at the world’s best practices.An academic tradition, authority and aspiration for the future of the oldest Russian university - St. Petersburg State University has become a solid foundation for this idea.

Today, GSOM SPbU has become one of the best business schools in Russia and Eastern Europe, has high positions in international rankings, and has received the largest number of international accreditations among Russian business schools. A number of GSOM programs are among the best in the world.

Financial Times: GSOM SPbU improved its position in the ranking of the Financial Times European Business Schools Ranking 2017

The Graduate School of Management SPbU has been ranked 57 in the Financial Times European Business Schools Ranking 2017, and remains the only Russian business school listed in the ranking.


20 years of the Presidential Program for management training

On November 30, 2017, the Ministry of Economic Development of Russia hosted an international conference dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the implementation of the Presidential Program for the Training of Management Personnel for the Organizations of the National Economy of the Russian Federation.


Head of GSOM SPbU Center for Public Private Partnership Studies Svetlana Maslova is awarded a medal

Svetlana Maslova, Head of GSOM SPbU Center for PPP Studies has been awarded the medal by the Ministryo of Transportation for her great personal contribution to the project The Western High-Speed Diameter, a toll motorway in Saint Petersburg, which is fundamentally changing transportation patterns and easing pressure on the historical center of St. Petersburg.


Step by step to the cherished goal: GSOM SPbU achieves unprecedented heights in the Financial Times ranking of the best international Master's programs

On the eve of its 25th anniversary, the Graduate School of Management SPbU received confirmation of the success of its Master's Program in Management once again. The program is now listed as one of the top 25 best programs in the world.


The Program in Management in Health Care offered by GSOM SPbU is one of five leading programs in the field of Management and Innovation in Health Care

The Global Educators Network for Health Innovation Education (GENiE) has issued its White Paper (Educating Leaders Who Can Accelerate Health Care Innovation: What You Should Do To Make It Happen, White Paper, July 2017) which will be presented at 5th Annual Conference of Association in Harvard business school in October 03-07. 


GSOM SPbU gets on top of the best business schools ranking according to the analytical center "Expert"

The ranking of the analytical center "Expert" included 22 Russian business schools, five business schools from Ukraine, two from Kazakhstan and one from Belarus. GSOM SPbU has the first place in ranking.


Bachuki Tsanava, GSOM SPbU 2nd year Master student, was awarded as SPb Government Prize winner for best diploma project on PPP topic

On June 29, 2017, the St. Petersburg Government awarded prizes for the best graduation projects done in cooperation with the executive bodies of the St. Petersburg state authorities. Among the winners was Bachuki Tsanava (2nd year student, Master in Public Management Program, GSOM SPbU). 


GSOM SPbU makes its debut in The Economist ranking

The GSOM SPbU Master program has been included in the ranking of the best management programs in the world by The Economist.


Tatiana Garanina is co-author of the computer program for the LUKOIL Group, registered with the Federal Service for Intellectual Property

Tatiana Garanina, Associate Professor of the Department of Finance and Accounting, is one of the co-authors of the computer program (Portal) "Innovation and Communications Support System" (SPIC). The program is registered with the Federal Service for Intellectual Property.


Andrei Panibratov is the first National Representative of Russia and the Board Member of the European International Business Academy

Professor Andrei Panibratov was nominated and elected as the National Representative of Russia and as such a Board Member of the European International Business Academy (EIBA) in the EIBA General Assembly in Vienna in December 2016. This is the first time that a representative of Russiais a member of the EIBA Board.


​Irina Berezinets was elected to the Supervisory Board of PJSC «BANK URALSIB»

Irina V. Berezinets, Associate Professor of Department of Finance and Accounting, has been appointed as member of the Supervisory Board of PJSC «Bank URALSIB».

List of Events commemorating the 25th Anniversary of GSOM SPbU 



1.       March 24, 2018

Bachelor program presentation

GSOM SPbU Bachelor program is 25 years old in 2018. It was the first program of the Faculty of Management of SPbU when it received its first 33 students. On March 24, 2018 we invite all the prospective students and their parents to take part in the Bachelor program presentation on Mikhailovskaya Dacha campus.


2.       5-7 April 2018

The Management of the Future Conference

The annual conference for talented students and leading companies of Russia has been held at GSOM SPbU since 2012. This year it will be devoted to the 25 years anniversary of GSOM SPbU. The purpose of the conference is to contribute to the creation of a highly qualified management reserve for Russian companies, recruited from among prospective student participants of both from Russia and from leading universities in the world.


3.       Beginning of April 2018 (date - TBA)


In 2017, GSOM SPbU students held a conference under the TED license for the first time in the history of the University. The event was successful and this jubilee year the students will again hold a TEDxSPbU event. We invite everyone to the Mikhailovskaya Dacha campus to exchange ideas and thought on projects.


4.       16-21 April 2018

Management career week

For the 25 years of its existence, GSOM SPbU has achieved significant results in many ways, including through interaction with its corporate partners. In 2018, the business school is now working with more than 200 leading Russian and foreign companies. In order for work with companies to offer students the most interesting career opportunities in the field of management and finance, the Management career week was organized the first time in 2017 to replace the traditional career day.


5.       May 19, 2018

Peter Drucker Awards Ceremony

The Peter Drucker Award is one of the oldest GSOM SPbU traditions. The first ceremony took place in 1995. In 2002 Peter Drucker warmly confirmed his support to the awards event in a personal letter to the Head of the Faculty of Management, Valeriy S. Katkalo, when he presented several of his books to the School's library. In 2018 the ceremony will be held for the 22th time.


6.       End of May 2018

GSOM SPbU Advisory Board Meeting

The Advisory Board of the Faculty of Management of SPbU was established in 1993. It was a pioneering experience for Russian business schools and business education. For the first 10 years, it was headed by John E. Pepper, Jr., President&CEO, Procter&Gamble. Since 2007, the GSOM SPbU Advisory Board has been headed by Special Presidential Representative for Environmental Protection, Ecology and Transport, Sergey B. Ivanov.


7.       May 29, 2018

Master programs presentation

GSOM SPbU Master Programs have existed since 1997 and are considered to be flagship programs. The Master in Management, Master in Corporate Finance programs and have constantly improved their positions in international rankings. For several years GSOM SPbU has been enrolling students for the Master in Public Management program, and in 2018 the Master in Business Analytics and Big Data Program will be launched the first time.


8.       Beginning of July 2018

Graduation Ceremony

For the GSOM Family members the graduation ceremony is always associated with a long-awaited gift - a symbol of GSOM SPbU, a polar owl named Freddie. This friendly owl became the school mascot after the graduates took the real Freddie, living in the Leningrad zoo under their custody and adopted him. In early July 2018, more than 300 students will receive GSOM SPbU diplomas at the anniversary graduation ceremony.


9.       The first weekend of September

GSOM Bumper Ball Day

Annually in the beginning of September the GSOM sport event Bumper Ball Day will be held on Mikhailovskaya Dacha campus. It is an informal meeting for the whole GSOM Family. Everyone can compete in various sport games and have fun. The central event of the program is a football match using bumper balls - large inflatable balls.


10.   September 22, 2018

GSOM Family Day

GSOM Family Day is a global meeting for all GSOM Family members. This year, alumni, students, partners, staff, professors and friends will meet to celebrate the birthday of GSOM SPbU.


11.   4-6 October 2018

Emerging Markets Conference

Over the last several years, the Emerging Markets conference has become an important platform for discussing issues in the most diverse areas of research in the context of Emerging Markets. In 2018, the conference will gather leading researchers in the field of management and experts in the field of business education.
