The Graduate School of Management of St. Petersburg University (GSOM SPbU) held an annual GSOM Call case championship with Ozon. The event was attended by 235 teams from Vladivostok, Voronezh, Irkutsk, Kazan, Kovrov, Krasnoyarsk, Lipetsk, Ufa, Novosibirsk, Omsk, Stavropol, Moscow, St. Petersburg and other cities.
This year turned out to be a record both the number of cities and number of participants. 926 students tried to solve real business problems, 653 of them in marketing and 272 involved in data analytics.
Marketers have developed a brand strategy for Ozon Rocket: they identified the target audience and came up with the concept of communicating with customers. At the second stage, the participants proposed ideas for a New Year's advertising campaign. "We really liked the case. We had a lot of fun thinking through New Year's creatives. It was nice not only to show my knowledge and abilities in marketing but also to reveal the creative side of the solution. In general, the case was not so complicated as interesting. Thanks to this, everyone has found people they like to work with and can rely on".
Anna Migunova, a second-year student of the HSE Graduate School of Business, a member of the team "Team A"
Students who were involved in data analytics have studied the feasibility of Ozon's work with the Spasibo Sberbank program: they calculated the solution based on the data set and made proposals to develop cooperation. "We participated in the Analytics block — for us it seemed more interesting of the two presented. Our team was assembled from different departments: marketing, financial management and logistics. It is essential to participate in such events: studying and minimally performing my student tasks has never attracted me — I strive to take everything from university life and try myself in different ways. Case championships are a great opportunity to test your knowledge and skills in practice and get a fast track to a company that has been attracting attention for a long time".
Elizaveta Senyushkina, a third-year student of GSOM SPbU, a member of the Terpila team.
Only the top 10 teams reached the final in each track. They presented their decisions to the jury members during the defense, which took place at the Mikhailovskaya Dacha campus. The first place in the analytics direction was taken by the mixed team of the Higher School of Economics and the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics — Excelsior team, the second — Terpila from GSOM SPbU, the third team — YFCA, which brought together students of GSOM SPbU and Bauman Moscow State Technical University. In the marketing direction: the first place went to the A Team from the Higher School of Economics, the second place went to the Sphere team from the State University of Management and the third place went to OnlyBusiness, the joint team of the HSE, Plekhanov Russian State University and the Ulyanovsk Institute of Civil Aviation. The winners received fast tracks for an internship at Ozon, online shop certificates for 5 and 10 thousand rubles, and a brunch with the company's top management.
