The modern world is becoming increasingly complex, unpredictable and dynamic. Accordingly, there are new requirements for the competencies of leaders in various spheres of human activity. The concept of vertical development of a leader considers the transition from one stable state of consciousness and action practices of a leader to the subsequent ones. Each subsequent stage expands the capabilities of the leader in the effectiveness of solving the most complex tasks faced by people. Often this process is viewed as a leader's transformation toward increased awareness and personal maturity. In the process of transformation, a person learns to look at the world through a systemic and holistic mindset that allows them to embrace the whole picture. This presentation describes the stages of leader transformation, the contribution of age, experience and special training opportunities. Examples are given of how the level of leadership development influences the success of various projects. It gives an idea of diagnostics of the leader's development level and ways to form effective teams based on the identified types of leadership behavior.
