Goals and objectives:

Course is intended to introduce current IT trends to future managers and develop practical skills in the field of decision support technologies.

Course Content:

The course focuses on providing valuable insights on how data analysis can help businesses to bring additional value. The course consists of mini-lectures followed by labs aimed at developing practical skills in analyzing data. During the labs students will solve analytical challenges using BI software tools by Microsoft and real-life data. Starting from simple reporting solutions, followed by building multidimensional OLAP cubes and finding patterns in data using data mining algorithms, students will be able to understand and apply the whole range of analytical tools used in companies. Important question of when and how Big Data might be needed to perform data analysis is covered. The most important part of the course is the final project, where students do the analysis of their own data and present results to the class. 

Teaching Methods:

The course is based on interactive teaching style with intensive student participation. As a part of the course, students should prepare a software BI solution during their lab works.
