The Career Center of the Graduate School of Management of St. Petersburg State University has developed an educational course on career planning. The Master in Management training programs were the first to pass it this fall.
The goal of the new elective is to help students choose an informed career path and equip them with the necessary tools and techniques to successfully find internships and/or jobs.
Through practical exercises (case discussions, simulations, peer feedback sessions, etc.), students learned to analyze the labor market, determine their career preferences, evaluate opportunities, create step-by-step career plans, and develop job search skills including resume writing and preparation for an interview.
Students actively used the tools of the “How to Build a Dream Career” program: they worked with a self-knowledge questionnaire, studied career guides, and met with industrial consultants. 47 successful graduates of GSOM SPbU, representing 14 different areas from strategic consulting to industry and IT, are ready to help GSOM SPbU students develop a tactical plan for realizing career goals and support them with advice at the start.
“Thanks to this elective, students, under the guidance of experienced mentors, can take full advantage of the tools of the How to Build a Dream Career program, gain deeper knowledge on career planning, better understand the labor market, find support and be inspired by the successful results of Business School graduates,” said Elizaveta Troyanova, director of the Career Center at GSOM SPbU and author of the course.
“I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the creators, lecturers and curators of the “Career Planning” course. Their friendly attitude, help and support, and most importantly, their high level of competence really helped us in our career development. Guest teachers and teachers of GSOM SPbU played a key role in the training and gave interesting lectures throughout the course. Their experience and interest inspired us to explore new horizons. We are happy to have such a motivating team on the path to a successful career,” Deogratius Kalulu, a student of the Master in Management program, shared his impression of the course.
