Elena Rogova, head of the Department of Finance and Accounting, head of the Center for Research on Market Efficiency and Applied Finance at GSOM St. Petersburg State University and manager of the Center Daria Kochetkova took part in the international scientific seminar of the School of Finance of the National Research University Higher School of Economics "ESG transformation: challenges for emerging markets." The event took place on December 8-9 in Moscow.
Today, when choosing investment opportunities, attention is increasingly being paid not to traditional financial indicators such as earnings per share or operating profit, but to the environmental and social performance of the company.
“Responsible finance” or ESG investing is gradually evolving from a niche concept into a mainstream investment paradigm. A key role in this paradigm is played by ESG ratings as an independent opinion on the state of environmental and social responsibility in the company,” noted Elena Rogova. “However, the concept of these ratings has not yet been fully developed and there are a large number of methodological problems that have not been resolved at all or have only been partially resolved. That is why it is important for researchers from different universities to meet, exchange opinions, discuss their own work and articles appearing on this topic in scientific journals.”
Experts from the Business School presented a report on the connection between ESG ratings and the financial results of Russian companies. The Center for Research on Market Efficiency and Applied Finance at GSOM SPbU plans to create an interuniversity community of ESG researchers.
