November, 5th, 2019, with the participation of the Russian Management Journal, XXIV Dean Pashkus Readings took place at GSOM SPbU. Guest speaker Victor E. Dementiev, (Dr. econ. sci., professor, member correspondent of RAS, Head of scientific direction Central Economics and Mathematics Institute of RAS, Prof. of State University of Management) delivered the lecture on topic “Are hierarchical organizations "mammoths" in the modern economy?”.
In his report Viktor E. Dementiev analyzed the circumstances that prevent the crowding out of large companies by network organizations. Organizational inertia is said to be one of the main characteristics of hierarchical structures. At the same time, the speaker noted that even in conditions of increased demand for network forms of organization, a large hierarchically structured business can not only survive, but is also able to actually form the development paths of entire industries.
Dean Pashkus Readings have been held at GSOM SPbU since 1996 in honor of its first dean, Yury V. Pashkus. Each Reading consists of a one hour report on fundamental or applied problems of management followed by opponents' speeches, questions and discussion.
