Students of the Graduate School of Management of St. Petersburg State University (GSOM SPbU) are involved in the international project X-Culture: they have to work in international teams on a case for an international company.
The project is being implemented as part of the International Economics and Business course on the Bachelor program "International Management". Students from different universities from all over the world randomly unite in virtual teams and receive an assignment from the company related to the development of international aspects of activities. Within two months, the team must develop and submit a written report.
“Students gain unique practical experience in the field of international business. On the one hand, the participants carry out an applied project, and on the other hand, they work in a cross-cultural team, overcoming the attendant obstacles that can be encountered in the workplace: different time zones, cultural characteristics, level of English proficiency, difficulties in remote communication, etc. The final project report is assessed by several business and university experts. Along with the grades, students receive comments from experts. The best teams and the best individual participants are given awards,” said Karina Bogatyreva, the project curator from the GSOM, Director of the Center for Entrepreneurship.
X-Culture is a large-scale international experiential learning project with over 1,000 MBA and management students. Since 2010 652 universities from 102 countries have taken part in it. Dr. Vas Taras, Associate Professor of International Business at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, is the founder and coordinator of the X-Culture Project.
