How to become rich by reading the news: VTB Bank and GSOM SPbU have offered the participants of the Big Challenges in Sirius to develop a big data project
A team of experts from the Graduate School of Management of St. Petersburg University (GSOM SPbU) and VTB Bank participate in the Big Challenges 2021 scientific and technological program of the Sirius Educational Center in the sphere of Big Data, Artificial Intelligence, Financial Technologies and Machine Learning.
In the Big Challenges 2021 program, talented participants learn to apply subject knowledge and practical skills in their professional activities in the form of project work. The participants unite in teams of 4-6 people and work for three weeks on market, industry or research tasks according to the model of the full life cycle of the development of innovations, from analyzing the topic and formulating requirements for the result to defending the project.
The team of GSOM SPbU and VTB Bank invites the participants to work out the following problem: Buy or sell? Revealing the relationship between financial markets and news flow. How to get rich by reading the news? And why did this or that share become cheaper or more expensive?
During the work on the project, students will consider:
· issues of dividing the news stream into topics and clusters;
· problems of identifying named entities;
· building graph analytics using machine learning tools;
· approaches to identifying the statistical relationship with economic indicators, for example, with quotations of financial instruments.
Based on the results of the project, an analytical service will be developed to work on open economic data.
A team of experts from VTB and GSOM SPbU has been jointly participating in the Big Challenges since 2020. This year, Alexey Ryabykh, Managing Director of the Advanced Machine Learning Algorithms Department of VTB, became the author-compiler and the main project manager. The expert group also includes the Director of this Department, Lev Merkushev, and Daria Klishevich, Research Assistant at GSOM SPbU, Representative of the Center for the Study of International Business.
In addition to the VTB team and GSOM SPbU, Almaz-Antey, the Bank of Russia, MIPT, Yandex, Russian Railways, Gazprom-Neft and others presented their projects for the Big Data-change of Big Challenges 2021.
Scientific and technological project educational program Big Challenges takes place on July 5-28, 2021. The project has been implemented since 2016 with the aim of creating a unique platform for talented high school students and leading scientists, representatives of companies, research centers, universities to solve the most ambitious tasks in the field of science and technology in Russia. 400 high school students are invited to participate, winners and prize-winners of the All-Russian Scientific and Technological Competition Big Challenges, actively involved in design and research activities in the following areas:
· Agro-industrial and biotechnology
· Unmanned vehicles and logistics systems
· Big data, artificial intelligence, financial technology and machine learning
· Genetics, Personalized and Predictive Medicine
· Cognitive research
· Space technology
· Nanotechnology
· Neurotechnology and nature-like technologies
· New content
· Development of the Arctic and the World Ocean
· Modern energy
· Smart city and security
