Methodological workshop for professors "Research Results, New Knowledge and Methods in Teaching Business Disciplines: Agenda, Opportunities And Challenges" was held on September 9 under the aegis of the Research Committee and Teaching Excellence Lab in Business Education of the Graduate School of Management of St. Petersburg University (GSOM SPbU).
The Business School's professors discussed in teams the development of research activities in a highly uncertain environment and integration of research results and management methods into the learning process.
Maria Smirnova, Head of Marketing Department, Head of GSOM SPbU Research Committee: "Students and attendees of every program level show a demand for systemic knowledge that we may use to apply our research methods and results. When we speak about systemic character, this implies a certain leap in critical thinking. We have to consider what methodic approaches we can apply not only to convey research value, use the possibilities of reflection and critical evaluation of new knowledge and methods, but also to discover relevant tasks and opportunities of reaching collaborative results".
Inclusion of original developments and results into the learning process, generating students' and attendees' confidence in research achievements create a large space for re-evaluation of teaching methods on programs of different levels. Creation of credibility in program content in terms of its scientific component and methods of teaching is one of the tasks to be solved by the Teaching Excellence Lab in Business Education of GSOM SPbU.
Elena Zavialova, Head of Organizational Behavior and Personnel Management Department at GSOM SPbU, Professor: "Today we have a challenge to afford an opportunity of choice and present our research achievements as one of the possible solutions, not as an ultimate truth. Nobody knows what will be in demand next year. Students of all program levels have to know how to compile a kind of a glossary of methods and ways of task solution - this is the main key. If we show our latest research results in an environment of global uncertainty, they will certainly be taken into consideration".
The workshop will summarize the experience of GSOM SPbU professors in integration of research results into the learning process. In the near future, the Research Committee is planning to resume regular research workshops arranged by all departments and centers of the Business School, where Doctoral and Master's students will be able to present their research results.
