Based on the results of the summer internship, Eastern State Planning Center (Federal Autonomous Scientific Institution "VostokGosplan") offered jobs to students of the Graduate School of Management of St. Petersburg University (GSOM SPbU). Beginner professionals took part in the design of tools for monitoring and planning of social and economic development of Far East, which included creation of the region's digital demographic model, building an information and analytic system and development of a financial model of the United Far Eastern Airline.
Five GSOM SPbU Master's and Bachelor's students succeeded in an interview and did an internship at Federal Autonomous Scientific Institution "Vostokgosplan", working on current projects together with the organization's experts. Future analysts, financial experts and managers demonstrated high levels of knowledge and skills, as well as the ability to solve tasks independently, search for and suggest appropriate solutions. Elena Abramova, Strategic Communications and Human Resource Development Manager at Federal Autonomous Scientific Institution "Vostokgosplan", told us about the projects in which the Business School students were involved: "Digital information and analytic system of monitoring and forecasting of social and economic processes in Far East allows to analyze the macro-region's development and get forecasts based on the main parameters of the macro-region's economy and social sphere. This is an effective tool to support managerial decisions and assess their outcomes. The demographic model allows to obtain as much up-to-date information on people's life in Far East as possible, simulate demographic process scenarios and forecast the society development. The model allows the State to plan and implement targeted social and demographic policy in the macro-region. The financial model of the United Far Eastern Airline is a basis for creation of a regional airline, that will not only help to solve the macro-region's transportation issues, but also provide conditions for the development of tourism and other industries in Far East".
"The Graduate School of Management of St. Petersburg University strives to make the knowledge students gain during the learning process as much corresponding to the employers' requirements as possible. This would be impossible without collaboration with partners, because only during an internship can one try their hand at something, put theory into practice and adopt effective methods from practicing professionals. We are grateful to partner companies for involving Bachelor's and Master's students in solving real large-scale tasks, among which there are tasks significant to the development of regions. For students this is a precious experience and a strong incentive for advancement. As a result of such approach and close cooperation of GSOM SPbU with companies and public agencies, 80% of our alumni find jobs in the course of three months after graduation, and many of them even during studies". — says Elizaveta Troyanova, Director of the Career Center of GSOM SPbU.
The main outcome of the internship are job offers from Vostokgosplan to Elizaveta Sivash (Quality of Life and Demographic Potential), Aleksandra Levintsova (Financial Modeling and Analytics System Development) and Polina Golubeva (Digital Service Development). GSOM SPbU students can continue working on projects that provide sci-tech and strategic support of accelerated economic development of Far East and Arctic, aimed at the enhancement of life quality.
