GSOM SPbU turns 30 on January 25, 2023

On January 25, 1993, Stanislav Merkuryev, Rector of Saint Petersburg State University, signed an order to open the faculty — the School of Management. The birthday of our alma mater will be celebrated with the closest family members. Those whose daily work makes up the current success of Business School №1 in Russia will gather at the general meeting. In the evening, GSOM SPbU faculty and staff are invited to the Mariinsky Theater to listen to Richard Wagner's The Flying Dutchman. Conductor of the event is maestro Valery Gergiev.

GSOM SPbU and MegaFon Olympiad

On February 1, the Olympiad for the First will start, organized by GSOM SPBU and MegaFon, our long-term partner. In 2023, Russia's leading telecommunications company is also celebrating its 30th anniversary. Students and alumni of Russian universities will be able to participate in the Olympiad and try on the role of a MegaFon employee, and the winners will have the opportunity to get an internship at the company.

Reunions in St. Petersburg and online

GSOM SPbU alumni do not say goodbye to the Business School after graduation: they regularly participate in alma mater's events, meet each other for useful networking and exchange of ideas. Neither distances nor different time zones interfere with this: GSOM SPbU alumni work in almost all countries of the world in leading positions in international and Russian companies.

In the first quarter of 2023, the Business School's alumni will be able to meet in person in St. Petersburg or online.

Pashkus Readings

GSOM SPbU is the successor of the Faculty of Management of SPbU, which was established through the initiative of Rector of St. Petersburg State University. The leading professor of the Faculty of Economics Yury Pashkus (1939-1996), known for his research work on the foreign economy, especially on the German financial and banking system, was invited to chair such an innovative faculty.

Over a short period from 1993 to 1996 Yury Pashkus being the Dean organizing new faculty, succeeded in creating the foundations of all future research directions.

Since 1996 the SPbU GSOM has hosted traditional Pashkus Readings. During this event the faculty and researchers of the School commemorate Yury Pashkus contribution to the creation of GSOM SPbU.

ESG Lab

​The anniversary year is the right time to institutionalize the expertise accumulated over 30 years. From spring 2023, together with Philip Morris International (PMI), we are launching an ESG LAB.

The main goal of the project is to create on the basis of GSOM SPbU a permanent educational laboratory ESG LAB, specializing in the development and implementation of new educational tools, practices and products in the field of the ESG agenda and sustainable development. These practices are based on the effective interaction of business, academic and student communities. The target audience of the project is partner companies interested in developing the relevant competencies of GSOM SPbU alumni, as well as Business school's students and faculty of GSOM SPbU, under whose guidance students develop these competencies.

Peter Drucker Award Ceremony

​Our Oscar — the annual Peter Drucker Award — will be held on a special scale: students and faculty will celebrate each other for the best achievements, and all participants are waiting for a grand show.

Graduation Ceremonies

The presentation of diplomas and figurines of the snowy owl Teddy, the mascot of GSOM SPbU, are long-awaited events in the life of every student of our Business School. Years of study are left behind, and a new world of perspectives and opportunities, ideas and discoveries opens up before them. In the anniversary year, our graduates will receive special gifts with anniversary year symbols — these gifts will be unique. In addition, there are many more surprises waiting for everyone.

Opening of new sports facilities

With VTB Bank support, new sports facilities will appear at Mikhailovskaya Dacha campus. A complex of outdoor sports grounds will be built on the 5 hectare park area: football pitch, workout and crossfit area, multi-purpose playground, building with locker rooms and coaches' room, spectator stands.

The new sports facilities will host the Football Championship and Bumper Day.The project also involves complex improvement of the park territory, including creation of walkways and renovation of historical linden alleys.

GSOM SPbU Day (September 23)

On this day, the Mikhailovskaya Dacha campus will host the main festive event of the year. The GSOM SPbU Day will bring together faculty, staff, students, alumni, applicants and partners of the Business School. Educational, entertainment, cultural and other events will be held. We promise a rich program and unforgettable emotions.

Management of the Future student conference

For 10 years Management of the Future student conference has proved itself to be the best career event for future managers: it brings together the best students from different universities in Russia and the world and representatives of leading Russian companies.

For many years, students have been striving and striving to be among the conference participants in order to listen to eminent experts, exchange ideas and take a big step forward on the path to building a successful career.

This year GSOM SPbU is going to scale it up using hybrid technologies at Mikhailovskaya Dacha campus. The Association of Managers, which unites the largest Russian companies, will serve as a partner of the event.

The EMC International Conference 2023

The EMC International Conference will get new meanings and a new name — Economy and Management Conference, and broaden the range of issues discussed. Among the topics of ЕМС-2023 there are such issues relevant for business and management science as: application of information technology in management, smart cities, healthcare enterprise management and digital marketing.

The theme of the 10th Anniversary Conference, October 3-7, will be EMC 2023: Performance, Sustainability and Public Values.
