On March 27,the spring Management Career Week 2023 took place. Twice a year, GSOM SPbU organizes an educational conference that helps its motivated students determine the direction of career building and get to know representatives of the business community.

Traditionally, Olga Dergunova, Deputy President-Chairman of the Management Board of VTB Bank and Director of the Graduate School of Management at St. Petersburg University (GSOM SPbU), delivered a welcome speech. The Director of the Business School shared the prospects for the development of GSOM SPbU until 2025 and emphasized the importance of cooperation between the business school and its alumni. She also noted that after graduation, students are employed by leading companies, quickly receive job offers, and launch successful startups. In part due to this, GSOM SPbU is considered the best business school in Russia and one of the leading ones in the world.

How does the level of education affect one's career? Is it worth going to Master program? When should you start working, right after completing your Bachelor or Master program? The discussion on this topic is popular in the student community, and the event organizers decided to hold debates and give each side a chance to defend their point of view.

Andrey Zhukov is the new Head of the Management of the Future 2023 conference and a second-year student in the MCF Master program at GSOM SPbU. Andrey combines his studies with part-time work at Vostokgospplan company. In his opinion, alumni of master's programs have more chances to get a job at a prestigious company and earn a higher salary. Andrey supported his arguments with statistics and examples from his own experience.

Nikita Drevalev is an alumnis of GSOM SPbU Bachelor program and an employee of a large FMCG company. He disagreed with his opponent and defended the opposite point of view. In his opinion, a bachelor's degree is sufficient for a successful career. According to Nikita, the main thing is to approach the issue consciously, set priorities correctly, and follow one's interests.

The debaters remained firm in their opinions but agreed with each other that GSOM SPbU provides an excellent start for a successful career, regardless of the chosen program and degree. The most important thing is for students to have an alternative and, if desired, to be able to combine work and study comfortably.
