GSOM SPbU alumni organized a Data Science Day for students of GSOM SPbU. The goal of the event was to inform participants about working in the field of data science.
More than 100 people, including 50 active participants, registered for the online meeting with young successful representatives of the IT industry. Speakers shared their experiences and stories from their professional lives.
Zhanna Azizova, an alumna of the Business Analytics and Big Data (MiBA) program in 2020 and a Data Analytics Manager at Bolt in Estonia, talked about the intricacies of using metrics and methods for data collection and analysis. Irina Kozerog, GSOM SPbU alumna in 2008 and the head of IT research and development at Sber, presented on the specifics of data analytics in the banking sector and discussed cybersecurity with the participants.
Anton Vdovenko, an alumnus of GSOM SPbU Bachelor program in 2016, works as a Data Scientist at UCARE.AI in Singapore and helped students understand the difference between roles in a company - Data Science, Data Analyst, and Data Engineer. "I was glad to participate as a speaker for several reasons. Firstly, I hope that my speech will help students to choose their future career path. Secondly, I demonstrated the possibilities of applying AI in practice. And finally, participation in such events helps to develop both professional and personal qualities. Perhaps some of the students will want to participate in the TalentUp! mentoring program in the future."
Vladimir Gorovoy, Academic Director of the Master in Business Analytics and Big Data (MiBA) program at GSOM SPbU, moderated the event.
"Thank you to the speakers for taking the time to share their experience! As a recruiter, I was particularly interested in learning about the organizational structure of analytical departments in companies, different roles within this segment, and the necessary competencies. I also want to thank Irina for bringing a legal aspect to the presentation, in addition to technical or marketing/product aspects. For students who want to become data analytics specialists, I think it was useful to learn about the steps they should take now to become Junior-level professionals in data analysis," shared Ekaterina Kosmacheva, a second-year Master in Business Analytics and Big Data student at the Graduate School of Management of St. Petersburg University.
The event was held as part of the Talent Up! mentoring program, which is a project for sharing experience and knowledge between GSOM SPbU alumni and current students. The program was organized jointly with the Graduate School of Management Alumni Association and the GSOM Career Center in 2012.
