On June 22, the Method.GSOM discussion club “Artificial intelligence for teachers: how to implement systemically in the educational process?” was held.
ChatGPT and other generative network services, which have stirred up the whole world during the last six months, have highlighted the wide possibilities of artificial intelligence (AI). At the same time, the arrival of new tools in education has caused fierce debate about their place in the educational process and associated risks.
GSOM SPbU experts discussed whether AI can advance education in the implementation of the long-discussed individualization and open up previously inaccessible approaches to teaching methods. Also, what is AI now - a universal tool for cheating and plagiarism or an assistant to students to study better, and teachers to do meaningful non-routine work?
The Method.GSOM Discussion Club is a project of the Center for Teaching Excellence in Business Education at GSOM SPbU. The center brings together online and ofline leaders, teachers and methodologists of universities and corporate universities in Russia and the CIS countries to discuss topical issues of methodological approaches to teaching and find solutions together. |
The participants of the event learned about different approaches and formats of assessment, their relevance and using specific examples they analyzed the difference between the resulting and formative assessment.
Tatyana Gavrilova, Professor of the Department of Information Technologies in Management, Head of the Department of Information Technologies in Management, GSOM SPbU
“My opinion is that if there is an opportunity to use artificial intelligence, it should be used. Another thing is that it is necessary to clearly structure tasks and apply tools only where they significantly operationalize routine teaching processes. It's normal for many people to be upset about it right now. It is important for us to understand that AI does not create unique expert content and to show students where they can use it in their activities, teach them to look at the result more deeply, from a professional point of view.”
During the practical part, the discussion club participants worked in teams and shared their vision on how AI solutions can be integrated into individual segments of the teacher’s “path”: analysis of introductory and discipline development, preparation and conduct of classes, preparation and organization of extracurricular work, assessment and analysis of course results. To find out that AI approaches and services are already used by higher education experts in the educational process, and to know how they relate to the limitations and potential of AI you can watch the recording of the discussion club.
