Timur Zurovsky and Artemy Zakrzhevsky, the students of the master's program "Management" at GSOM SPbU, have been successfully combining study and work at Tele2 for several months.
The company was the first to support the idea of the GSOM SPbU Career Center to make training even more practice-oriented and provided two places for a one-year internship in the areas of operational and product management.
“I carry out research tasks,” says Timur Zurovsky about his responsibilities. — My management is sometimes interested in some new topic, and they want to get more information. Or for a new person who does not have much experience in the telecom industry to look at this or that task from a new angle. I collect, analyze information and visualize the findings on slides, and then present the results to the head of the department. I love what I do. I feel my information processing and presentation skills grow with each study. This is an experience that will help me in any field. I also have a growing understanding of how the telecom industry in Russia works from the inside, which can become my competitive advantage in the labor market. The management treats me understandingly: they give me tips, explain them, and calmly let me go to classes. Throughout the first semester, I was able to comfortably combine work and study. I think it's a cool experience."
“An industrial internship is an excellent opportunity to gain practical experience working in a large company. Nowadays, employers value not only education, they look at what internships you completed and where you worked before. Tele2 is a good place where you can get practical experience, which will be appreciated later. What’s really cool about this internship is that it allows you to complete your summer internship and consulting project — one of your important academic work. This is a big plus. Students in their third semester spend a lot of time on consulting projects. Plus, the internship is paid, which is never superfluous,” says Artemy Zakrzhevsky.
Industrial internships are extended industrial practice in a company, taking place without interruption from studies. The employer officially hires the student, pays him a salary, provides a social package, and in the case of an on-site internship, together with the university, compensates for travel and accommodation expenses.
Participants gain applied knowledge from business practitioners in real-world work environments. For an employer, an industrial internship is also of interest: students can often offer non-standard solutions and an academic approach to solving problems; at the end of the internship, the company can receive a specialist who has not only a theoretical basis, but also practical experience.
Tele2 has its own talent attraction program, available to everyone, but the experience of industrial internships turned out to be so successful that the company is now ready to accept another Business School student for an industrial internship (customer service area) on special conditions.
Tele2 company is a trustee and partner of the Graduate School of Management of St. Petersburg State University. Representatives of Tele2 also participate in the work of the Strategy Commission under the Board of Trustees of GSOM SPbU and the Council of the master’s degree program “Management”.
