GSOM Family day took place at “Mikhailovskaya Dacha”

On September 22nd, Graduate School of Management (GSOM SPbU) community met at “Mikhailovskaya Dacha” campus. Businessmen, representatives of GSOM SPbU partner companies, alumni, students and faculty gathered together to discuss the future of business education.

 

This year GSOM Family Day was organized for the third time and was dedicated to the School 25th anniversary. During the day, guests participated in five panel sessions, attended lecture by Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation on Digital and Technological Development Dmitry Peskov and took part in master class by Irina Drapulya.  Nadiya Cherkasova, a member of PJSC Bank Otkritie board, gave an open interview as well as Changellenge CEO Andrei Alyasov, Head of the ITMO Innovation Laboratory Evgeny Blagodarny and co-founder of Go Foods Andrey Reduto.   

The day began with a business breakfast dedicated to the future of business education. School representatives and corporate partners discussed how GSOM SPbU should develop. During strategic session, participants voted to find out what values the business school creates for business. The core values were distributed as follows: training talented graduates who are able to learn quickly and solve non-standard tasks, offer solutions to the problem of the development of companies’ personnel, help in research and managing operational tasks.

After the breakfast, the lecture by Dmitry Peskov begun. Mr. Peskov drew student’s attention to what needs to be done to effectively manage the future. According to Dmitry Peskov, first of all, it is necessary to “wash the facts before eating”, that means, not to trust everything you read on the Internet, to distinguish real things from hype, to have your own language to describe reality and to train the ability to gather a team.

At the same time the block “Tell your story” was held. GSOM SPbU students, graduates and professors spoke about their achievements. One of the headliners was Associate Professor of the Department of Strategic and International Management Yury E. Blagov. The theme of his speech was "GSOM SPbU: a love story." Professor Blagov told about how the School appeared, and why he decided to work in it.

This year GSOM Family Day was organized as a Birthday party, so the School got a present. The representatives of  Procter & Gamble company opened the co-working zone in the Student’s club. Now students have a place with new computers and comfortable spots to work in groups.

After the co-working zone opening guests went to panel sessions. The main discussion was devoted to business education in the era of digital transformation. Also at GSOM Family Day 2018 discussed: St. Petersburg development, artificial intelligence, strategic leadership and marketing.

The evening program started with the performance “Fuel” (“Toplivo”) by Pop-up Theater. It was about the finding of life meaning and was created on the basis of  the interviews with David Yang, the founder of ABBYY, the developer of Lingvo electronic dictionary system and the text reader program Fine Reader.

 

 

 “There is such a divine moment when your program starts to work ... And this will definitely remain after you, right?”

 

At the end of GSOM Family Day guests had a piece of Birthday cake.

 

In total, this year GSOM Family Day visited over 700 guests. 47 speakers participated in the business program.

 

For the first time, the event had five information partners: Vedomosti, Business FM St. Petersburg, Expert North-West, Business News Agency and St. Petersburg Vedomosti. The official partners of GSOM Family Day were: BCG, P&G, Alpina Publisher, Europe Uno Trade SPb, Avtoprodiks Sport Official PORSCHE dealer. Catering partners: Valio, Coca-Cola HBC Russia, Khvalovskiye Vody, Karat Plus. The fourth GSOM Family Day will be held in September 2019.
