The first online defense of a thesis has taken place at GSOM
On May 28, 2020, the Graduate School of Management of St. Petersburg State University (GSOM) hosted the first online defense of a thesis by Kazimir P. Yablonsky on the topic “Evaluation of the effectiveness of medical organizations”, which was submitted for the degree of Candidate of Economic Sciences. After his successful defense, Mr. Yablonsky was awarded the degree of Candidate of Economic Sciences.
His Scientific Advisor was Yury V. Fedotov, Associate Professor of the Department of Operational Management.
The dissertation of Kazimir Yablonsky was devoted to the development of a method for a comprehensive assessment of the effectiveness of medical organizations. Because State medical organizations and, above all, medical institutions, belong to the public sector of the economy, it is not sufficient to use an economic approach alone to evaluate their effectiveness. In healthcare, as a socially significant sector of the economy, an assessment of the effectiveness of organizations and their economic results must also take the quality of the services provided and the satisfaction of key stakeholders into account.
The methodology developed in the dissertation for a comprehensive assessment of the effectiveness of medical organizations was based on the concept of the "Performance Prism" of A. Nelly. According to this, the effectiveness of the organization is determined by the satisfaction of the interested parties providing the organization with the assets necessary for it to function. As part of the study, a unique database of reported data on the costs and volume of resources for the provision of medical care, along with the results of a survey of doctors, nurses and patients acting as stakeholders was created.
