On November 15, at the Graduate School of Management of St. Petersburg State University (GSOM SPbU), international experts will discuss the increased influence of geopolitics on the international strategies of emerging market firms, the interaction of multinational companies with national and international governments, the role of diplomacy in the process of internationalization, and much more. Scholars will present their research at the Emerging Market Multinationals and the Politics of Internationalization track at the 7th International Conference "Emerging Markets 2020".
“Today, the economy is largely dependent on politics. Governments tend less to integrate economically with each other and seek to advance their interests through protectionism, subsidies and national regulations. This affects the flows of goods, capital, people and information, and the global business and economy are changing and no longer based on the traditional rules. As a result, multinational companies adjust their strategies to better cope with a new political environment, updated regulations and attendant risks. In the track, we will discuss the influence of governments and politics on the activity of national firms, both domestically and abroad, the use of non-market strategies in emerging markets by multinational companies, and the effect of geopolitical changes for international business strategies,” said Track Leader, Chairman of the GSOM SPbU Scientific Committee Andrei Panibratov.
The track will include a presentation by Gerald McDermott, Professor of International Business at the Darla Moore School of Business of the University of South Carolina, where he is the Faculty Director of the Folks Center for International Business, and a Senior Research Fellow at IAE Business School in Argentina. Dr. McDermott specializes in international business and political economy, particularly on issues of innovation, risk, corporate strategy, and institutional change in emerging market countries.
The track invites full papers that address the theme of the Special Issue of the International Business Reviewjournal. Presentation and discussion of the papers will provide track participants with an opportunity of further developing their papers and possibly submit in the Special Issue of the IBR.
The 7th International Conference Emerging Markets 2020: New Reality During and After COVID-19 will be held on November 11-18 at GSOM SPbU in an online format at the ZOOM platform. The conference is organized in partnership with The Academy of Business in Society (ABIS), a network of over 100 companies and academic institutions whose expertise and resources are used to invest in sustainable business development in society; Caux Round Table, an international organization of business leaders with a value-based approach to global capitalism; GEM&L, an international group of researchers focusing on language and communication in the business environment.
