Strategic finance is the area of financial and strategic management, which refers to the study of corporate performance with a long-term goal of an enterprise. The logic of the area says that financial performance should be analyzed both by means of financial instruments and by means of strategic tools (decisions in the product market, or business model).

In this area the issue of decision making under uncertainty is central. Uncertainty is caused both by financial fluctuations, company’s competitive position, and external environment. So financial performance is under improvement by means of strategic instruments, and strategic decisions are considered through the lens of financial valuation.

Digitalization of the economy, new modeling tools such as Machine Learning, together with fintech, blockchain, high frequency trading, represent the second important factor of development of the area.

Finally, there is a new trend of studies, deeply connected to progress in IT and changes in social policy, which analyzes deflation of hardware tools we use, on one hand, and inflation of the income for majority of world population, on another. We can see this effect in only recently appeared corporations with above-trillion capitalizations (IT and hi-tech) and dramatic growth of payments for utilities even in developed countries.    

Formally the area includes the talks devoted to: 

• corporate finance,
• financial hedging techniques,
• real options analysis and uncertainty,
• risk management and sustainability,
• fintech,
• long term valuation and private equity,
• corporate governance and internal control,
• financial accounting and analysis.

 

Distribution of talks to the sections will be done by the Program Committee on the basis of contents and timing.

We invite to discuss the ways how the new economic reality affects the area of finance. The agenda will involve the discussion of new business and financial models that suit the changes in economic environment like de-globalization, growing uncertainty, new types of risks etc.)
