Abstract: The article is devoted to the identification of key features of training specialists in knowledge management and systematization of information sources available to them. The relevance of the subject is related to the growing need for managerial personnel, capable of organizing work with knowledge at the enterprise in order to achieve competitive advantages.
The study examined the definitions associated with the management of knowledge in the foreign and domestic literature, analyzed the number of subjects taught in Russian specialized universities, revealed the predominance of non-formal education over education in universities. The phenomenon of teaching knowledge management within the framework of such related disciplines as information technology and personnel management has been studied. The article also systematizes the trends in which knowledge management projects are implemented. Based on the above specifics, it is suggested that the main driver of the development of non-formal education in this area is the entrepreneurial initiative of experts. The directions in which the contribution of Russian science to the development of knowledge management as a discipline is manifested to a special extent are noted. Such are the spheres of intellectual capital and information technologies.
The article will be of interest to researchers and practitioners whose professional interests lie in the field of knowledge management. In conclusion, ways of improving education systems in higher education institutions and non-formal education are proposed to increase the competence of all specialists who work in the field of knowledge management.

Abstract: The paper is devoted to development of a working capital management model providing optimal levels of working capital to all individual business partners operating under the liquidity and return constraints through collaborative actions of capital reallocation along the supply chain. As such, we suggest the tool of working optimization through financial terms and cash flows verified on Russian collaborative supply chain data. Mathematical modeling is suggested as a method to upgrade existing collaborative cash conversion cycle model by optimizing it in terms of total financial costs minimization for a three-stage supply chain in the context of constrained liquidity and specified target return levels. The application of the suggested optimization model to focal supply chain provided significant acceleration of individual cash conversion cycles and investments in working capital by combining the extension of days of accounts payable, reduction in days of inventories and reduction in days of accounts receivable in different proportions for supply chain participants. The theoretical contribution consists of integrating collaboration and working capital concepts, adding a holistic perspective to extant working capital management models. The suggested model illustrates financially the motivation of supply chain partners to cooperate in order to simultaneously achieve target levels of WC investments and improve individual financial performance through collaborative operations.

Abstract: In this paper, we examine the moderating role of knowledge management strategies of codification and personalization in “HRM – intellectual capital – firm performance” relationship. A survey data from 209 knowledge-intensive companies from Russia demonstrated that knowledge management strategy significantly alters the relationship between company’s HRM practices, intellectual capital and performance. In particular, we found that the more company is oriented towards codification knowledge management strategy, the stronger the positive HRM-performance relationship and the stronger the mediating effect of intellectual capital. However, analyzing decomposed variables of HRM (ability-enhancing, motivation-enhancing and opportunity enhancing) and specific intellectual capital resources (human, social and structural capitals), we found little support to the moderating role of knowledge management strategies in proposed relationships. The paper provides a valuable contribution strategic HRM literature and knowledge-based theory of the firm.

Abstract: Since its emergence, entrepreneurial orientation (EO) has grown in prominence to represent a central concept in corporate entrepreneurship. Despite the importance of EO, insufficient attention has been devoted to EO in emerging markets and transitional economies. In this paper, we examine the international exposure of managers within an emerging market context as a driver of their firms’ EO formation as well other potentially impactful forces such as foreign competition growth in their domestic market and the level of involvement into international economic activity within the region where the firm operates. We explore the focal relationships using a sample of 769 manufacturing firms from Russia, a BRIC country that has received very little attention within the literature on corporate entrepreneurship in general and EO in particular. Our findings indicate importance of managerial international exposure and industry foreign competition growth in the process of EO formation. At the same time, the former is shown to be a context-specific EO driver. Implications are discussed.

Abstract: Exporters’ advantages have been discussed in the literature for many decades. Scholars report positive influence of export on firms’ productivity, efficiency, innovativeness etc. However different contexts suggest different outcomes of the exporting activity. The aim of this study is to analyze the interplay between firms’ absorptive capacity, export orientation and innovation strategy of Russian firms. We argue that for Russian firms developed absorptive capacity is an essential antecedent of exporting capacity. Moreover absorptive capacity not only affects firms’ export strategies but is affected itself by export and innovation strategy of the firm. We test our hypotheses using Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA). The data was collected by survey of Russian exporters. Total sample accounts 107 observations.

Abstract: This paper presents a thorough analysis of different talent management practices implemented by local companies from Kazakhstan, Belarus and Ukraine. In particular, I pay special attention to the country-specific environments that shape the peculiarities of talent management practices and provide discussion about its future perspectives within the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) context. All of the case studies presented in this review illustrate how different companies from the specified countries deal with such key issues of talent management as the attraction, recruitment, indoctrination, development, motivation and retention of high-potential employees. Specifically, I demonstrate that organizations from Kazakhstan, Belarus, and Ukraine share a common feature of talent management policies, systems and practices being more formalized and highly regulated especially compared to Western – more developed – countries. It is also revealed that in Belarusian and Kazakhstani companies open performance appraisal systems are unpopular and performance-based remuneration mechanisms remain underdeveloped. Meanwhile, in Ukrainian companies, there are a persistence of elitist talent definitions and a preeminence of talent retention practices, whereas in Belarusian and Kazakhstani companies there is a prevalence of Universalist talent definitions, with former concentrating on specific aspects of talent management, i.e. the attraction, development or retention of young specialists, and the latter focusing more on talent development practices. Finally, I conclude by demonstrating that talent management is influenced by a number of factors, some of which are rather specific to Kazakhstan, Belarus and Ukraine, but at the same time can be featured as common for the CIS context.

Abstract: The paper discusses talent management practices in companies from three most influential Asia Pacific economies: China, India and Korea. Being parts of the Asian-Pacific region, these countries are much devised in terms of economic growth and cultural background. We elaborate country-specific talent management practices and discuss regional trends as background for effective management of talent. Chinese and Indian talent management practices are similarly focused on financial incentives, training and development, as well as, performance management and fast-track promotion. In China and India the use of workplace-based voluntary benefits to incentivize employees is found to be especially efficient. In contrast to Indian and Korean companies, Chinese companies are still more attentive to employees’ living conditions and their social life. While Korean companies are less mindful about financial appraisal of their employees, but have a stronger focus on comfort internal environment associated with harmony and trust.

Abstract: The paper presents work in progress on the artificial intelligence (AI) methods use in knowledge management (KM) systems. Such methods supposed to improve KM , for example, automated knowledge discovery with data mining and natural language processing techniques or to continuously reinterpret meaning of information with the sense-making injection. Recent papers focus on the studying of different AI technologies implementation for knowledge management, like big data, ontology-based methods, intelligent agents. However, a lack of systemic understanding of their application is still exists. In the paper we aimed to answer the question: What is the role of different types of artificial intelligence methods in the knowledge management systems dedicated for solving particular tasks? To do this several steps is taken. First, analytical framework for existing cases of AI applications was constructed. The framework consists of for embedded dimension: organizational context and environment, KM processes and tools, KM system architecture, AI technology implementation. For every dimension a set of characteristics was considered by which use cases can be analyzed. Second, based on the characteristics an analysis of the published KM systems with the incorporated AI technologies was performed. The analysis followed Tranfield methodology with a three stages: planning, conducting, and reporting the review. For the planning stage analytical framework were used as well as analysis of the relevant literature. At the conducting stage search be the keywords in Scopus database was performed yielded 174 papers as an initial result, than exclusion criteria was applied to the results resulted in the 83 papers for the further analysis. This is a current stage of the research. After it will be finished, a synthesis of the patterns will be performed to create the model of AI technologies use in the KM systems.

Abstract: Customer loyalty is one of the most important customer metrics in marketing due to the profit impact of maintaining a loyal customer base. Among different tools for managing it - the creation of customer loyalty programs is still considered as the best way for delivering differential value. Since 1970s the discussion of theoretical grounding for loyalty programs has been balancing between notions of behavioral and attitudinal loyalty. However, the modern perspective suggests the holistic approach and introduce more complicated challenges which makes the question of conceptualization a secondary one. This paper provides the review of existing theoretical bases for customer loyalty programs classifications and explains its connection with motivations theories. Finally, it highlights recent challenges for loyalty programs effectiveness and introduces ways to overcome.

Abstract: State-owned enterprises are considered an important phenomenon in the contemporary international business research which has a particular focus on the internationalization of such companies. The most prominent examples of globalizing state companies are the enterprises from emerging markets, whose economies are traditionally shaped a lot by the state influence and where historical legacy still influences the development of economy. This study examines the relationship of the state ownership and internationalization which is still far from being clear, since research on this topic produced controversial results. The controversy may be grounded in the different contexts where state companies operate. We study the Russian state companies, that are the least studied among the emerging market countries, and promise to reveal the insights on the internationalization strategies of SOEs. We examine the association of the state ownership degree and the internationalization level on the sample of state- and private-owned enterprises that are the 250 largest Russian exporters for the 4 years from 2013 to 2016. The results indicate that state ownership degree is negatively associated with the internationalization intensity, but only in case of the indirect state ownership, which we explain with the argumentation of the public agenda that companies pursue indirectly. Russian state companies are considered to have both commercial and strategic goals, and the latter may be connected to the geopolitical aspirations of the government. Firms with indirect state affiliation are used by the government as a leverage to reach non-market goals. Thus, the state pursues strategic (as opposed to commercial) agenda indirectly.

Abstract: The paper investigates the determinants of talent mobility in Africa and the role of talent management (TM) practices in talent mobility to Ghana, paying special attention to the determinants of talent mobility in African countries aiming to enhance more extensive economic development by knowledge transfer by expatriates from developed countries. A survey will be conducted on 250 -300 expatriates and 50 CEOs and 20 TM consultants already working in Ghana. We expect the results to confirm that with an efficient TM system supported by the government, firms in Ghana can convert expatriates to migrants to enhance expatriate knowledge transfer into Africa, particularly Ghana.

Purpose: Current research explores what determines corporate Human Resource Management strategy (SHRM), proposing that external institutional pressure can limit firms’ freedom of choice.
Design/methodology/approach: The illustrative context is the banking industry in Russia. With a focus on the disclosed SHRM, the research helped to ensure that a) most of the banks indeed were similar in SHRM, despite possibility of the alternative options; b) successful banks were more self-determined in SHRM choice; c) in both cases, this choice was not associated with the competitive advantage of the banks. Key methods: theoretical thematic analysis on a latent level and Human Capital Disclosure Index.
Findings: Example of the Russian banking industry helped illustrating that institutional fit of SHRM was not a myth and should not be neglected. However, successful banks partly overcame high institutional predetermination: they recognized and utilized lack of coherence in the institutional system; therefore, institutional barriers became advantageous for them.
Originality/value: The research shifted from a traditional positivist perspective with its practice-based approach to the interpretivist perspective, treating SHRM as a combination of three latent referent standards. It allowed shifting from the ongoing debate about what form of SHRM has higher influence on performance, intended or perceived; and about operationalizing its variety.
Research implications: The results contribute to a wide range of research in Strategic Human Resource Management. The context plays illustrative role, thus findings can be tested outside the banking industry and Russian institutional environment.

Abstract: The paper provides the review of the role of informal institutions in two emerging market contexts, China and Russia, and identifies its influence on firms’ internationalization process. In the process of internationalization, Chinese and Russian firms have always been affected by their informal institutions. Informal institutions in Chinese and Russian context affect overseas operations such as production, sales, and service of the companies. The research claims that informal institutions such as values, ethics, and habits influence Chinese and Russian firms the process of internationalization in Russia and China but operate differently depending on the context that can be explained by a country specifics. By analyzing and comparing the influence of informal institutions on firm’s internationalization in researched countries, we re-evaluate its impact in emerging market countries.

In this study the differences in human resource management among European multinational enterprises depending on their performance during the economic crisis were analyzed. In addition, the relationship between human resource management characteristics and performance of multinational enterprises in the crisis period were studied. The results of the study revealed the specific features of human resource management in the most successful multinational enterprises during the economic crisis.

This paper takes institutional environment’s perspective on entrepreneurship in general, on necessity-driven entrepreneurship in particular, therefore incorporating its multidimensional nature and enabling more detailed understanding of interaction between entrepreneurial motivation and institutional arrangements.
The main content of this research determines the significant factors in the regulatory, normative, and cognitive pillars of the institutional environment. Using the databases of World Bank, the International Labour Organization, the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor survey, the Doing Business, and the World Economic Forum the set of the variables of the institutional environment was defined. These data are from 2009 to 2014, and range across 70 countries.
Our research shows that different institutional factors influence the total level of entrepreneurial activity and motivation structure differently.

Abstract: This paper empirically investigates average reaction of emerging markets of Russia and India to dividend surprises on the post-crisis period 2010-2014. Traditionally, unexpected dividend component has been measured in relation to the “naïve” model, which assumes that the next period expected dividend level equals the previously paid dividend. The study proposes different, rarely applied in the dividend announcements literature analysts’ expectations-based approach to measure unexpected component of a dividend announcement. As a proxy for dividend surprise the difference between the actual dividend and the consensus analyst forecast is used. The research was conducted using event study methodology on the sample of Russian and Indian public companies, which regularly pay dividends. Obtained results of the study provide the grounds to make conclusions about the fact that Russian market on average reacts negatively to both good and bad dividend surprises; good dividend surprises on average trigger positive abnormal returns on Indian stocks, whereas bad and no surprises are associated with negative reaction of Indian market. In this research the results are discussed from the perspective of signaling theory of dividends, markets efficiency, behavioral finance, economic and legal issues. The results of the study could provide market players with an instrument of investments decision-making. For companies it is important to take into account market reaction when deciding upon dividend payments and improvement their dividend policies.

Abstract: managing on international joint venture post-formation is a critical decision for both foreign and local managers. Reviewing the literature in international and strategic management, the authors discuss recent findings of research on international joint venture acquisition by a foreign or local partner over the past 15 years. In doing so, the authors provide an in-depth review of theoretical foundation of IJV acquisition by one of the partners, the dominant determinants and a framework of research on IJV acquisition by a foreign or local partner. This proposed framework groups eight determinants and integrates the antecedents of IJV formation – described by complementary assets between partners and previous experience of a foreign and local partner, initial IJV characteristics influence – described by ownership structure, control and bargaining power, shifts of IJV characteristics – by three previous determinants and IJV performance, moderators – uncertainty, learning and new experience influences, and the decision of IJV acquisition by one of the partners. As a conclusion, the authors provide several recommendations for future research.

Abstract: The article aims to complexly examine the role of persuasion knowledge activation in consumer response. To handle the purpose, the author reviews the related studies published since 1994 when the term “persuasion knowledge“ was introduced to scientific discourse. The literature review shows that persuasion knowledge activation is mainly associated with negative consequences for firms resulting in a more critical assessment of marketing stimuli by consumers, less favorable judgements and behavior in relation to firms and brands. Besides, there is empirical evidence that consumers can activate persuasion knowledge even in the absence of firms’ persuasion intent. Ultimately, the effect of persuasion knowledge activation on consumer response to marketing stimuli is dependent upon a variety of moderating factors and intrinsic characteristics of the phenomenon addressed in a particular study. The study contributes to persuasion knowledge literature by combining conceptual theorizations articulated in the seminal article by Friestad and Wright with empirical evidence appeared afterwards, so the theory is enriched and clarified.

Abstract: Business and management literature pointed out on the existence of business cycles and on the importance of conducting countercyclical mergers and acquisition policy. However, according to the merger wave theory in practice acquisitions are likely to be procyclical because of real and behavioral factors. The majority of empirical papers finds positive link between M&A activity and state of the cycle, suggesting that acquisitions are procyclical. This paper tests whether M&A deals of metallurgical companies in China, Russia and India are procyclical. The results show that deals are indeed procyclical, but only at a glance. Introducing intermediate state of valuation in the metal market indicates that the majority of acquisitions were made when prices where close to the neutral state. As the result, acquisition policy can be characterized as neutral to the state of the cycle.

Abstract: This study aims to uncover the initiation stage of international M&A and indicate what type of experience affect the successful completion of this stage. Besides different types of experience are analyzed in different formal and informal institutional settings in order to reveal how institutional environment can moderate firm’s absorptive capacity implementation on M&A initiation stage.
In the study sample of 509 international M&A deals initiated by Russian MNEs in the period of 2000-2012 is empirically tested by mean of logistic regression analysis. The empirical analysis indicates that prior experience in certain market always increases the probability of M&A deal announcement irrespectively the degree of proximity with formal and informal institutions of the host country. However firm’s negative experience impedes further internationalization especially if institutional environment is dissimilar. Positive M&A experience may as increase probability of M&A deal announcement as decrease it depending on familiar-ity with institutional environment.

Abstract: While there is a growing interest in management literature towards exploring multiple strategic orientations, their interactions and influence on firm performance, most research has been conducted in stable economic environments and developed countries. Taking into consideration the contemporary economic instability and its effect on business operations, it is timely to develop an understanding of strategic directions which may help firms create proper behaviors for managing their way through economic crises. In this study, we examine the role of entrepreneurial, market, and learning orientation in mitigating the negative effects of economic crisis and sanctions on firm’s operations. Based on the dataset of 612 Russian small and medium-sized enterprises collected during the crisis period in 2015-2016, the results indicate that firms with a broader strategic direction are more affected by the unfavorable economic conditions compared to firms which are focused on a particular strategic orientation.

Abstract: This paper contributes to the search of suitable and sustainable strategy for managing corporate Human Capital. Drawing on the Self-determination theory, current research differentiates HCM strategies by resulting causality orientations of employees. In particular, the research focuses on the High Involvement-based Work System (HIWS), which is usually favored to create supportive environment for employees' engagement into Innovative Work Behavior. It implies high level of Autonomous Orientations.
In result of quantitative analysis, it turned out that HIWS is still a black box for many organizations: despite high importance of autonomy and relatedness for employees, the question about competence became a challenge. Furthermore, for top management and HR managers even question about relatedness was challenging. Thus, the research revealed that this strategic approach is still new for CIS countries: it increases employees' motivation, however does not lead to the increased engagement into Innovative Work Behavior or creativity development.
The research accounts for a contextual specificity of emerging markets and individual characteristics, and corresponds to such fields as SHRM, HRD, M&A, change management.

Abstract: We combine championing and industrial symbiosis perspectives with an ultimate goal to uncover the underlying mechanisms of industrial symbiosis. To study this emergent topic, we conduct single in-depth case study of industrial symbiosis between Russian company, Yandex, and local district heating provider in Mäntsälä, Finland.
Growing concerns about the environment and rising demand for IT services add to this re-search practical importance. That is the fact because there is lack of research on how data center creators could decrease an environmental footprint through collaboration with other organizations such as municipalities, NGO, and other commercial firms.
We rely on existing (yet sparse) theoretical understanding of industrial symbiosis and championing processes and conduct semi-structured and in-depth interviews of championing of industrial symbiosis on both organizational and individual levels. Overall 15 interviews were conducted with representatives of 5 organizations.

Abstract: Strategic management and entrepreneurship literature traditionally pay substantive attention to rational decision-making processes with clear formalized plans and analytical procedures. Despite all the advantageous of planning-based logic, some scholars prefer alter-native approaches to making decisions. In entrepreneurship field, the effectuation theory rose to prominence, emphasizing analogical rather than analytical reasoning. While prior effectua-tion research focused primarily on studying personal characteristics of entrepreneurs, this pa-per is intended to reach a new level in examining macro-level factors that may influence the efficiency of entrepreneurial cognitive processes. Particularly, we investigate how formal institutions shape the relationship between venture cognitive logic of 4413 student entrepreneurs and performance of their ventures. We demonstrate that this relationship is to a large extent shaped by the characteristics of the country-level institutional environment (particularly, level of financial market development and generalized index of the ease of doing business).

Рассмотрены общепризнанные в теории и практике менеджмента подходы к измерению организационной эффективности (SMART, метод ключевых показателей эффективности, сбалансированная система показателей, программа качества Болдриджа). Особое внимание уделено существующему порядку оценки эффективности деятельности стационарных медицинских организаций, утвержденному распоряжением Комитета по здравоохранению Санкт-Петербурга в 2013г. Abstract: It is widely recognized that knowledge is the critical asset to individual as well as organization to succeed in the increasingly competitive environment. The study of knowledge sharing is dominated by those focusing on knowledge sharing activity within the business organizations. However, the issue of knowledge sharing is equally important for a knowledge-based institution, such as a university, where knowledge production, distribution and application are ingrained in the institution. Though there is no direct way to measure the outcome of knowledge sharing in knowledge institutions, the impact of knowledge sharing could be larger than those created by the business organizations.
In this paper we explore the knowledge sharing barriers in the administrative processes of the undergraduate educational programs on an evidence of the Bachelor in Management program at one Business school. The study employs qualitative method, based on semi-structured in-depth interviews with the administrative personnel involved in the program’s management. On the basis of the interview results, recommendations regarding improving the program’s knowledge sharing environment are given, as well as the methodology of further quantitative research is developed, planning to expand the research to a statistically significant sample of educational programs at University as well as other educational institutions.

Abstract: Foreign Divestment (FD) over the last few decades have been generally viewed as a sign of failure or negative whether it is a voluntary business strategy or a last resort for an international company. Abstract: Financial statement comparability has for a long time been one of the main points of interest of financial accounting research. Abstract: Supply chains (SC) are generally complex and are characterized by numerous activities spread over multiple functions and organizations, which bring up numerous challenges for efficient SC cooperation (SCC). To meet these challenges, SC members must work to-wards a unified system and cooperate with each other. The aim of the work is firstly to pro-vide a comprehensive literature review of the current trends in SCs cooperative strategies modeling and secondly to highlight the fruitful research avenues in this field. As a result, it was found, that in the previous years the research work on supply chain management has primarily focused on the study of materials and information flows and very little work has been done on the study of upstream and downstream flows of money. It is shown, that financial SCs are an integral component of SCs and yet there is very little research that specifically ad-dresses the strategy, implementation and performance of financial SCs. Thus, the further step ahead is development of models of collaborative supply chain networks in the field of financial supply chain management. In order to proceed to such a modeling financial supply chain management key elements are outlined and presented as a theoretical model from the perspective of long-term inter-organizational relationships.

Abstract: This study examines how components of strategic entrepreneurship (exploration and exploitation) relate to Russian SMEs performance during the economic crisis and to what extent combinations of firm resources determine these relationships. In order to address these issues we surveyed 651 Russian private SMEs. Our results show that during the economic crisis exploitation is positively associated with SME’s performance. However, we found positive association of exploration with SME’s performance during the economic crisis instead of negative association. Our results also indicate that relationship between exploration as well as exploitation and firm performance is dependent on different combinations of firm resources.

Abstract: Entrepreneurial behavior is usually initiated by formation of corresponding intention. At the same time, entrepreneurial intentions do not always materialize constituting in this way an intention-behavior gap in entrepreneurship. The environmental triggers of entrepreneurial intention-action translation remain to be understudied. With a piece of cross-country data derived from the GUESSS survey conducted in 2011 and 2013/2014, we study the entrepreneurial intention-action link among university students focusing on the essential context-specific moderators of this relationship. Namely, we reveal country financial market institutions and property rights protection system to impact the link between entrepreneurial intentions and further start-up activities.

In this paper we apply the OLI paradigm to examine the impact of macroeconomic influences on the trends of Russian cross-border M&As over the period 2007-2013. Our analysis gives an understanding of what attracts Russian investors abroad or in other words what motives – market-seeking, resource-seeking, efficiency-seeking or asset (technology)-seeking – are critical for them. The main thrust of our paper is that not only factors associated with the M&A target (host) country are important determinants of Russian firms’ investment-location decisions, but institutional differences between Russia and the host country play an important, moderating role. We test our model using current data, derived from open sources (e.g., international databases and national statistic agencies). Despite several limitations, our study reveals valuable insights about cross-border M&A determinants of Russian firms.

This article presents the results of an empirical study of the impact of dividends announcements on the Indian companies’ stock returns. Interest in the Indian stock market is due to the fact that today it is one of the largest and fastest growing markets. The research method used to measure the market reaction to announcements of dividend payments, is the event study analysis. The study was conducted on a sample of Indian companies whose shares are actively traded on the Bombay Stock Exchange in the period 2010 to 2012. The results obtained allow concluding that the Indian market, on average, reacts positively on the announcement of the increased dividend amount, reacts negatively to the announcement of the reduced amount of dividends and does not react on the announcement about the dividend amount unchanged.

Existing research has highlighted the importance of cooperation in innovation. However, there still is insufficient understanding of how cooperation is linked to the stages of innovation process. Current working paper aims to answer the following research questions: (1) At what stages of innovation process do the companies cooperate more: when they create or commercialize innovation? (2) Does the cooperation in innovation depend on the relational learning capability? (3) On what stage does cooperation stronger influence the company's performance? We answer these questions by examining innovation cooperation on example of a sample of 157 Russian firms. The findings highlight the role of relational learning and indicate distinctive characteristics of cooperation at the early and the late innovation process stages.

The role of dominant vertically integrated oil companies is considered to be of great importance, so the author tries to define possible scenarios of development of retail markets of gasoline under existing market structure. Intellectual Capital (IC) has been argued to be the key element of value creation in the contemporary economy, and this argument has been widely supported by empirical research, but mainly based on the data from developed markets. The questions of how IC and its elements work in emerging markets remains under-researched, and limited empirical evidence that exists contrasts the conclusions drawn from developed countries. The aim of this study is to provide empirical insight into the relationship between three main elements of IC (human, relational and organizational) and organizational performance of Russian companies. The sample includes 240 Russian companies. The data is collected with the survey using the scales that have been already validated in international context. The paper contributes to further development of IC theory by investigating its application in anew institutional and cultural context.

The present study explores the link between entrepreneurial learning and students’ entrepreneurial intentions, and examines the role of national cultural characteristics in this relationship. We contribute to the existing literature on entrepreneurial intentions by applying the concept of entrepreneurial learning and cross-cultural approach. The hypotheses of the study are tested empirically using a dataset of 84,812 students from 28 countries, collected as part of the Global University Entrepreneurial Spirit Students Survey (GUESSS) research project in 2013-2014. To measure the cultural characteristics of countries, we rely on measures of Hofstede’s cultural dimensions. Results reveal a positive relationship between entrepreneurial learning from university programs and students’ entrepreneurial intentions. In addition, the relationship was found to be moderated by the elements of national culture, being stronger in individualistic cultures and weaker in uncertainty avoidance cultures.

While a significant body of literature has explored the link between entrepreneurial orientation (EO) and firm performance, most research has been based in single country settings without taking into account cross-country differences. In this study, we investigate the relationship between entrepreneurial orientation and firm performance and the moderating role of environmental context in a developed and an emerging market. Our analysis of 104 Russian and 117 Finnish SMEs suggests that in a developed market context the EO dimensions of innovativeness, proactiveness and risk-taking are positively and directly associated with firm performance, while in an emerging market the relationship is moderated by the dynamic and hostile external environment. The specifics of national culture and different stages of institutional development may explain the differences in the way entrepreneurial orientation dimensions relate to firm performance.

This paper represents results of the research devoted to investigation of the influence of various types of organizational changes on Russian new ventures’ performance. In order to explore this topic and define relationship existing studies, covering influence of organizational changes on the performance and key characteristics of new ventures are analyzed. Hypotheses on the impact of technological and administrative changes such as the introduction of new management systems, new methods of responsibilities distribution among employees, changes in the management structure and outsourcing of non-core operations for the first time, on new ventures’ performance are tested. The empirical study is based on 1129 Russian new ventures from the database Business Environment and Enterprise Performance Survey (BEEPS), collected in 2012. The findings are interesting and have implications for managers and researchers. This study reveals negative influence of technological changes. Second, positive influence of administrative changes on new ventures’ performance was confirmed. Finally, it was concluded that manager’s experience influences positively on firm’s performance while conducting organizational changes, but to a certain value.

Стратегический менеджмент и теория делового цикла обращают внимание на значимость контрцикличных политик по управлению деловым циклом (contracyclical business cycle management practices), среди которых можно выделить политику по проведению сделок слияний и поглощений (M&A). Согласно контрцикличной политике M&A компаниям следует покупать предприятия на стадии падения, когда цены являются низкими и продавать активы (в случае необходимости) на стадии подъёма, когда цены завышены для достижения цели прибыльности деятельности. В работе рассмотрены сделки M&A российских металлургических компаний во время последнего делового цикла (2000 – 2013 годы). Металлургическая отрасль традиционно рассматривается как пример отрасли, находящейся под значительным воздействием со стороны колебаний делового цикла по причине эластичности предложения металлов и промышленного производства. Показано, что фактическая политика M&A финансировалась за счёт долга и была процикличной, а не контрцикличной, что противоречит теории. Показано, что большинство сделок было заключено во время стадии подъёма и даже на пике делового цикла, кроме того, некоторые активы были проданы на стадии кризиса. Также показано, что, несмотря на то, что рассмотренные компании придерживались сходных проциклических политик, некоторые из них оказались в состоянии финансовой несостоятельности. Появление риска финансовой несостоятельности объясняется не только степенью следования процикличной политики M&A, финансируемой за счёт долга, но и другими факторами – направлением географического развития и некоторыми факторами корпоративного управления.

In this paper, we explore the role of enterprise gamified system in innovation capacity. Taking a design thinking perspective, and drawing on literature on Innovative Work Behavior (IWB), we hypothesize that Perceived Organization Support (POS) is positively associated with innovation capacity. This relationship is mediated by the employee`s engagement and IWB. We further argue that the implementation of sustainable enterprise gamified system will improve POS and thus will enhance innovation capacity. Following instrumental approach in our research, we offer practical solution of aligning the enterprise gamified system to the needs and peculiarities of an organization. Main opportunities and limitations are discussed.

Golovacheva K. Consumer Response to Unit Price Increase: the Role of Pricing Tactics and Consumer Knowledge. Working Paper. Graduate School of Management, St. Petersburg State University: SPb, 2015.
The study investigates how consumers react to unit price increases framed in an overt vs covert way (total price increase vs product downsizing). Using experimental data, covert (vs overt) unit price increase is proved to lead to a more positive consumer response in the short term when consumers have no access to external information and can rely only on their internal knowledge on covert pricing tactics usage. In the long term, when consumers have access to external information on covert pricing tactics usage, the effect of covert (vs overt) pricing tactics tends to become less favorable for companies: there is a deterioration of product attitude and producer trust judgements, acceleration of price unfairness perception, and lower purchase intention. The long-term effect is moderated by the source of consumer knowledge on pricing covert tactics usage: consumers who managed to internally invoke the knowledge on pricing tactics usage react differently to covert unit price increase in the long term than those whose knowledge on pricing tactics usage was externally invoked.

In this paper the methods and techniques of performance measurement and their application for healthcare organizations are analyzed. The overview of the research in the field of performance measurement and, specifically, performance measurement in healthcare organizations, is done in order to reveal agenda for further research with regard to the case of Russian Federation. We argue that the operationalization the notion of “performance” in the models used for estimating of healthcare organizations’ efficiency is not sufficient for its assessment that has to integrate professional, public policy and customer perspectives. It is shown that techniques applied in modern studies of healthcare organizations’ performance allow for measuring of multi-input – multi-output productivity, and, thus, they do not embrace all three perspectives of the healthcare organizations’ performance.

In the situation of increasing competition between retailers and between suppliers successful joint projects in category management field can be viewed as source of competitive advantage obtaining both for supplier and retailer. On the other hand unsuccessful category management projects can harm seriously supplier-retailer relationship. This study aims to investigate the factors which could influence the joint category management project performance in negative or positive way. The factors are classified by the stakeholders of category management process in product category. The finding presents the framework for future research concerning eliminating these factors in supplier-retailer relationship management.

Необратимость корпоративного решения рассматривается на примере освоения нефтяного месторождения «Приразломное» группой компаний «Газпром», а предлагаемые заинтересованными сторонами альтернативы – на примере практик энергосбережения, на которых акцентировали внимание природоохранные организации. По результатам анализа, автор выделяет три группы внутриорганизационных факторов, порождающих необратимость решения компании и оказывающих влияние на восприимчивость компании к альтернативам, предлагаемым заинтересованными сторонами.

Entrepreneurial entry happens as a consequence of a general choice of an individual to become an entrepreneur. While most entrepreneurial entry studies rarely consider an entry into a particular industry to be an aspect of entrepreneurial decision making process, we address this issue taking into account individual, industrial, and country specific attributes. Using data from the Global University Entrepreneurial Spirit Students’ Survey (2013-2014) on young and active entrepreneurs and extending it with objective indicators derived from World Bank, Global Entrepreneurship Monitor, and International Property Rights Index datasets, we investigate how various factors influence entrepreneurial industry choice on an aggregated level of industrial typology: knowledge-intensive and capital-intensive industries. Drawing on the RBV and contingency approach, we link an industry choice with the level of human capital development and an access to financial capital and test for possible country-specific moderation effects. Our findings indicate that both types of capital have a significant impact on industry choice by young nascent entrepreneur. Our results also suggest that specific country environment serves as a moderator in this relationship. Thus, our study contributes to entrepreneurial entry research stream extending the understanding of entrepreneurial entry decision making nuances related to individual access to resources and both industry- and country-level contingencies.

The aim of this study is to empirically investigate an average reaction of emerging market of Russia to dividend surprises on the post-crisis period 2010-2014. Traditionally, unexpected dividend component has been measured in relation to the “naïve” model, which assumes that market players expect dividend levels to remain the same from one time period to another. The study proposes different, rarely applied in the dividend announcements literature analysts’ expectations-based approach to measure unexpected component of a dividend announcement. As a proxy for dividend surprise the difference between the actual dividend and the consensus analyst forecast is used. The research was conducted using event study methodology on the sample of Russian public companies, which regularly pay dividends. Obtained results of the study provide the grounds to make conclusions about the fact that Russian market on average reacts negatively to both good and bad dividend surprises. In this research the results are discussed from the point of view of markets efficiency, behavioral finance, economic and legal issues. The results of the study are of practical importance from the point of view of making investment decisions by the market players as well as from the side of the companies, which along with other factors should take into account market reaction when deciding upon dividend payments and enhancing their dividend policies.

This paper reviews researches in talent management (TM) field and its implications for emerging markets’ context. We argue that there is necessity to investigate the extent to which multinational corporations from BRIC countries adopt TM practices and identifies factors influencing TM in Russia, China, India and Brazil. The paper aims to analyze theoretical background for TM to reveal the main directions of a comparative analysis of differences and peculiarities in talent practices in BRIC multinationals, the paper explores and provides a number of ideas and conclusions about TM challenges and talent practices in different emerging market contexts as a direction for further research.

The current paper makes an attempt to investigate the emerging market context of India. Specifically, the focus is made on innovative human resource management (IHRM) practices employed by Indian IT companies. The drivers of adoption of innovative HRM practices by these companies include national environment, organizational restructuring and ownership structure, legitimizing drivers, organizational culture, and the role of HR department. The current paper contributes to the contingency perspective and contextual paradigm that state that particular sets of practices (e.g., IHRM) and organizational routines are likely to yield better performance if they are matched with specific objectives, conditions, and strategic interests that rise from the context of the external environment. Thus the paper is within an increasing trend to undertake studies in emerging markets context. In order to illustrate the wide range of the innovative HRM practices used by Indian IT companies, the paper analyzed three cases of Indian IT companies. Analysis of these cases shows variation of different types of such practices being adopted by Indian companies. Conclusions can serve as the foundation for recommendations to managers for increasing the performance of companies through using IHRM practices.

In the study, borrowed brand equity is introduced as a construct, which is supposed to have a strong effect on brand equity leveraging and hence could be an important source of competi-tive advantage for companies. It is suggested that the brand image and awareness of brands associated with the focal brand impact the effectiveness of marketing programs. The introduc-tion of the borrowed brand equity construct to the customer-based brand equity model also makes it possible to explore the impact of brand symbolism and customer value propositions and with that contribute to closing the theoretical gap between customer value and brand equity.

China is one of the strategic trade partners for Russia, and both countries are top investors among emerging economies. Surprisingly, this is not justified with the investigation of whether outward foreign direct investments (OFDI) from China and Russia differ from other economies and what are distinguishing characteristics of the OFDI originating from these two countries? Based on institutional theory we test the set of hypotheses concerning OFDI from China and Russia. We conduct panel regression analysis on the sample of Chinese and Russian OFDI for the period 2002-2012. The results show that informal institutions are more important for China than for Russia, whereas for Russian OFDI government plays guiding role. Moreover, our results contradict previous studies saying that less developed institutional environment is more attractive for firms from emerging markets; the rule of law variable shows positive significant coefficient for both countries. Nevertheless, traditional allocation of OFDI still remains important for China and Russia.

The paper proves a necessity of changing the approach to anti-corruption expertise. The analysis of opportunities for mala fide behavior of agents and evaluation of incentives for their bona fide behavior must be supple-mented by the assessment of proposed regulation quality.
In the paper two different algorithms of the extended anti-corruption expertise have been introduced: first algorithm is applied to the new regulation tool, second one – to the regulation tool which has been used in the past and some information on agents’ reaction is available. In the both cases the expertise starts from the modelling of society’s preferences and comparing them with the principal’s preferences which are modelled on the base of proposed regulation. The relationship between proposed algorithms of anti-corruption expertise and the typology of principal-agent models, based on the assumptions of bona /mala fides of the Principal and the Agent, is underlined.
The algorithm of extended anti-corruption expertise of first type is applied to the two legal instruments regulating the determining of a winner in the tender. The reference to the implementation of second type algorithm for the anti-corruption expertise of applying the price English auction in public procurement is supplied.

Abstract: This preprint is the first part of the Necessity-driven Entrepreneurship: a cross-country Analysis project.
In this paper we identify determinants of necessity-driven entrepreneurship in developed and developing countries. We describe the differences in the socio-demographic characteristics of necessity- and opportunity-driven entrepreneurs, as well as their perceptions and aspirations.
The main content of this research determines the significant factors in the regulatory, normative, and cognitive pillars of the institutional environment.
Using the databases of World Bank, the International Labour Organization, the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor survey, the Doing Business, and the World Economic Forum, we defined the set of the variables of the institutional environment. These data are from 2009 to 2014, and range across 70 countries.
